BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.62 percent to 3,804.69 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.73 percent lower at 13,285.8 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at 2.34 trillion yuan (about 344.67 billion U.S. dollars), up from 2.3 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Liquor, automobiles and education stocks were among the top gainers, while stocks related to semiconductors, memory chips, co-packaged optics and glass substrate led the declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, lost 3.97 percent to close at 3,244.62 points.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 5.7 percent lower at 1,755.22 points. ■
