JAKARTA, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has strengthened the governance of its carbon market through the Carbon Unit Registry System, a unified national platform for recording and tracking carbon units, Environment Minister Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat said Wednesday.
Jumhur told a press conference that the system, known as SRUK, is integrated with Indonesia's national carbon exchange and supported by blockchain technology.
Designed in accordance with international standards, the registry is aimed at improving transparency, preventing the double counting of carbon units and strengthening investor confidence, he said.
"Through SRUK, Indonesia provides a clear response to investors' need for credible governance, regulatory certainty and transparency," Jumhur said.
Eddy Soeparno, deputy speaker of Indonesia's People's Consultative Assembly, said the registry would serve as a foundation for carbon trading and other carbon-pricing instruments supporting the country's climate targets.
He added that the system was expected to attract green investment by tapping Indonesia's potential in forestry, renewable energy and the low-carbon economy. ■
