KIEV, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Eight people were killed overnight between Wednesday and Thursday in Russian missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, Ukrainian authorities reported.
An Iskander-M ballistic missile launched from Voronezh struck a private house in a village near the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih, killing two children and four adults, said Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the Kryvyi Rih Defense Council.
Two other children were injured in the strike, Vilkul said on Telegram, adding that rescue operations were ongoing and the death toll could rise.
According to the State Service for Emergencies, one person was killed and seven others wounded in Kiev and the surrounding region. Fires broke out in two districts of the capital following the attack.
Another person was killed in the Poltava region, where a strike hit warehouses, the emergency agency said.
According to Ukraine's Air Force, Russia launched cruise and ballistic missiles, combat drones and guided aerial bombs against Ukraine overnight.
Meanwhile, Russia's Defense Ministry said its forces had carried out a large-scale overnight strike using long-range precision weapons and attack drones, targeting Ukrainian military airfields, defense industry facilities, telecommunications and logistics centers involved in the production, storage and delivery of missiles and drones. ■
