SINGAPORE, July 29 (Xinhua) -- The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) has reported a net profit of 20 billion Singapore dollars (about 15.48 billion U.S. dollars) for the financial year ended March 31, 2026, as robust investment gains more than offset foreign exchange translation losses and the cost of liquidity management operations, the central bank said Tuesday.

Investment gains totaled 39.8 billion Singapore dollars, recorded on a lower-of-cost-and-market-value basis, MAS said in its annual report.

The gains were partly offset by 16.4 billion Singapore dollars in negative currency translation effects due to a stronger Singapore dollar, a 2.4-billion-Singapore-dollar net cost from MAS' money market operations to manage banking system liquidity and other expenses, as well as a 1-billion-Singapore-dollar contribution to the government's Consolidated Fund.

"Investment gains were strong, as the global economy remained resilient to repeated shocks and financial markets performed well. All asset classes across bonds and equities, developed and emerging markets posted good returns," MAS Managing Director Chia Der Jiun said.

Chia, however, cautioned that the outlook remains uncertain, citing continued disruption in energy markets, rising inflation and elevated equity valuations as key risks to future investment returns.
