SANAA, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Yemen's Houthi group said on Tuesday that it had targeted a Saudi oil tanker with ballistic missiles in the Red Sea, claiming the vessel was forced to turn back after violating the group's maritime embargo on Saudi-linked shipping.
In a statement on the social media platform X, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea said the operation targeted the Saudi oil tanker NCC Ghazal, accusing it of breaching the embargo and "ignoring warning calls."
"The tanker was targeted with several ballistic missiles and was forced to turn back," Sarea said. He added that the group's forces would continue enforcing the maritime embargo on Saudi-linked shipping under what it called the principle of "blockade for blockade."
The Houthi claim could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate response from Saudi authorities or the vessel's operator.■
