BEIJING, July 29 (Xinhua) -- New-generation information technology, including artificial intelligence, internet, cloud computing and big data, accounted for 16.5 percent of China's total valid invention patents as of the end of June this year, the country's top intellectual property regulator said on Wednesday.
Rui Wenbiao, deputy head of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), told a press conference that as of the end of June, the country had 2.36 million high-value invention patents, while the number per 10,000 people rose to 16.8.
According to CNIPA, high-value invention patents include those that hold patent family rights abroad and those with a maintenance term exceeding 10 years.
High-value invention patents also include those in strategic emerging industries such as new-generation information technology and the new energy industry, as well as invention patents that have received the national science and technology award or the China Patent Award. Strategic emerging industry patents make up over 70 percent of China's total high-value invention patents. ■
