LISBON, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Portuguese goods exports rose 10 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, reversing four consecutive quarters of decline, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said Wednesday.
Export growth also outpaced the 8.2-percent increase in imports during the same period, the first time this had occurred in more than a year.
The rebound followed a 6.5-percent year-on-year drop in exports in the first quarter of 2026, the steepest decline in the series, while imports rose 2.7 percent.
INE attributed the recovery mainly to transactions involving processing work for foreign clients, known as TTE transactions. Under such arrangements, goods are sent to Portugal for processing and later returned to their original owner without a formal transfer of ownership. ■
