CANBERRA, July 29 (Xinhua) -- A man has been shot after allegedly stabbing a police officer in South Australia (SA) on Wednesday morning.
SA Police Superintendent David O'Donovan told reporters that the female police officer was stabbed in the neck while responding to reports of a man armed with a knife in the northern suburbs of Adelaide around 11 a.m. local time.
The alleged offender was subsequently shot in the leg by police.
"The police officer was transported immediately to hospital and is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries," O'Donovan said.
The man was taken to hospital under police guard with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Officers from the major crime unit and SA Police's internal investigation branch have commenced investigations into the incident. ■
