DHAKA, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's gross foreign exchange reserves amounted to 36.46 billion U.S. dollars on Tuesday, data from the central bank showed on Wednesday.
According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) calculation method, however, Bangladesh's forex reserves stood at 31.75 billion dollars, the Bangladesh Bank (BB) said.
Reserves calculated under the IMF's Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual are immediately usable, while gross reserves are usable subject to the liquidation of investments.
A senior BB official who declined to be named said Bangladesh is now in a position to cover around six months of import bills with the existing reserves, which are sufficient to help the central bank's efforts in keeping the country's foreign exchange market stable.
The gross reserves reached 34.43 billion dollars at the end of March. ■
