KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) for local production rebounded 7.4 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, reversing a 1.7 percent decline in the previous quarter, driven largely by higher prices in the mining sector, official data showed on Tuesday.

The turnaround was led by a 44.8 percent surge in mining producer prices, followed by increases in agriculture, forestry and fishing (6.8 percent) and manufacturing (3.9 percent), the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the PPI rose 6.8 percent in the April-June period, accelerating from a 0.9 percent increase in the first quarter, mainly due to a 35.5 percent jump in the mining sector.

In June alone, the PPI climbed 9.2 percent, accelerating from a 7.8 percent increase in May, with all sectors recording increases.
