TOKYO, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock index plunged over 4 percent Tuesday morning, as semiconductor-related issues were heavily sold.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 2,884.73 points, or 4.44 percent, from Monday to end the morning session at 62,046.46.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, was down 111.77 points, or 2.75 percent, at 3,954.30.
Stocks related to artificial intelligence and semiconductors came under heavy selling pressure after their U.S. peers fell overnight amid growing uncertainty over the profitability of investment in AI, analysts said. ■
