N. Gaza police chief among 5 killed in latest Israeli strikes: sources

GAZA, July 25 (Xinhua) -- At least five Palestinians, including the police chief of northern Gaza, were killed in separate Israeli airstrikes across the strip on Saturday, Palestinian sources said.

Abdul Nasser Mohammed al-Maqadma, 54, the police chief of northern Gaza under Hamas-run interior authorities, was killed after an Israeli drone struck his vehicle in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza City, according to a brief statement by the authorities and local sources.

In other incidents, medical sources said two Palestinians, including a woman, were killed in a drone strike on a house west of Khan Younis, a Palestinian was killed in a strike targeting a bicycle in northern Gaza City, and one Palestinian was killed and three others were injured in a strike on a tent sheltering displaced people near the Nuseirat refugee camp.

Ten more people, including women and children, were injured in a strike on the gate of Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, the sources added.

The Israeli military has not commented on these incidents.

Gaza-based health authorities said Saturday that the death toll since a ceasefire took effect in October 2025 has reached 1,191, with 3,853 injured.

The overall death toll since Oct. 7, 2023, has reached 73,317, with 173,961 injured, they added.
