KABUL, July 25 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people have been killed, and six others sustained injuries in a fresh spate of rain-triggered calamities sweeping across Afghanistan over the past 48 hours, the country's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said Saturday.

Flash floods, violent storms, landslides, torrential downpours, and lightning strikes claimed the victims in 14 provinces, according to Taj Mohammad Hemat, deputy spokesperson for the authority.

Hemat further disclosed that the relentless deluge has either completely razed or partially damaged 645 residential houses, while sweeping away nearly 4,000 acres of farmland and obliterating some 40 km of rural road networks, dealing a severe blow to local livelihoods and infrastructure.

The latest devastation follows Monday's deluge in eastern Nuristan province, where flash floods unleashed by heavy rainfall claimed at least 20 lives and left numerous others injured.

Afghanistan's meteorological department has forecast continued precipitation across 21 of the country's 34 provinces in the coming days, with urgent warnings issued for potential flooding in high-risk zones.
