RIO DE JANEIRO, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Yuri Alberto scored twice as Corinthians rose to seventh in Brazil's Serie A with a 3-0 home win over Remo on Thursday.
Alberto struck either side of Kaio Cesar's 40th-minute goal, securing Corinthians a seventh win of the campaign. Corinthians has now won its past three games and, with 27 points, is only five behind fourth-placed Fluminense.
"We controlled the match well, but we didn't play at the level that we expected," Corinthians manager Fernando Diniz said. "That said, since it's the first match after two months, it's normal to see some complacency and fatigue."
Remo is 19th in Brazil's 20-team top-flight standings with four wins at the season's halfway point.
In Thursday's only other fixture, Botafogo was held to a goalless home draw by Vitoria. ■
