SINGAPORE, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Singapore, as chair of the ASEAN education sector from 2026 to 2027, will organize regional programs focused on artificial intelligence (AI) in education, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education and the holistic development of students, under the ASEAN Work Plan on Education 2026-2030 released on Tuesday.
The work plan, launched by education ministers at the 14th ASEAN Education Ministers' Meeting in Singapore, aims to develop "well-rounded, resilient individuals alongside a highly skilled and competitive workforce," Singapore's Ministry of Education said in a statement.
The plan also seeks to strengthen an ASEAN identity that embodies shared ASEAN values, the ministry said.
Planned initiatives include a forum on AI in education involving ASEAN member states, China, Japan, South Korea and ASEAN dialogue partners, as well as a STEM youth camp, a summer program for university students and an outdoor youth camp.
The Singapore Center for Character and Citizenship Education will lead a regional research network in November, allowing ASEAN member states to exchange practices on how values education is designed and implemented in their national curricula. ■
