TOKYO, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher on Thursday, supported by gains in technology shares.
The benchmark Nikkei stock index, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average, ended up 307.00 points, or 0.46 percent, from Wednesday at 66,422.60.
The broader Topix index, meanwhile, finished 20.75 points, or 0.51 percent, higher at 4,053.88.
On the top-tier Prime Market, mining, bank and nonferrous metal issues were notable gainers.
Analysts said some heavyweight semiconductor and artificial intelligence-related shares rose after undergoing a correction phase, buoyed by signs of sustained strong demand for AI infrastructure in the United States.
However, the market's upside was limited as rising Japanese government bond yields and higher crude oil futures fueled concerns over their potential impact on corporate earnings. ■
