TEHRAN, July 23 (Xinhua) -- The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Thursday strongly condemned the British government's decision to permit the United States to use British military bases and facilities to prepare for and facilitate what Tehran called "illegal" military attacks against Iran.
In a statement, the ministry said the move clearly contradicts the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and international law, and is considered an "act of aggression" against Iran under UN General Assembly Resolution 3314, which stipulates that making the territory of one state available for use by another country to commit an act of aggression against a third state is considered an act of aggression.
The ministry said the British government's move to accompany the United States and Israel in their "illegal" war against Iran violates its international obligations in respecting Iran's national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
It added that Iran is determined to defend its territorial integrity, national sovereignty, interests, and security against foreign aggression, warning that any party participating in any way in military aggression against the country will be responsible for the consequences.
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham approved earlier this week the use of British military bases for U.S. strikes against Iran.
Over the past days, the U.S. military has launched several waves of strikes against Iran's southern provinces, claiming that the attacks were in response to the Iranian armed forces' targeting of vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, and aimed at "degrading Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping."
Iran has responded with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. military bases and facilities in the region. ■
