THE HAGUE, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Eighteen people were injured when two trams collided in Rotterdam, the Netherlands' second-largest city, on Wednesday, causing one of the trams to derail, local media reported.
According to Dutch regional broadcaster Rijnmond, the accident occurred at around 11:10 a.m. local time (1010 GMT) on the Erasmus Bridge. At least two people were seriously injured and taken to hospital.
Reports said one tram was approaching from the city center at high speed when it collided with another tram that was stationary in front of an open bridge. The impact scattered debris onto the ground.
Emergency services, including a trauma helicopter, were dispatched to the scene. ■
