YEREVAN, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Armenia's newly elected National Assembly will convene its first session on Aug. 2, Armenpress quoted Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan as saying on Tuesday.
In a statement, Hovakimyan said the inaugural session will begin at 10 a.m. local time (0600 GMT) on Aug. 2, in accordance with the Constitution and the Electoral Code.
The announcement followed the CEC's approval on Tuesday of the final protocols allocating parliamentary mandates to the political forces that secured seats in the June 7 elections.
According to the final distribution, the ruling Civil Contract Party received 64 seats in parliament, the Strong Armenia alliance won 29 seats, and the Armenia Alliance secured 12 seats.
Under Armenian law, the first session of a newly elected parliament is held on the day the mandate of the previous National Assembly expires. ■
