COLOMBO, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka on Monday launched national guidelines on dengue surveillance, prevention and clinical management for universities as part of efforts to strengthen control of the mosquito-borne disease.

The guidelines establish common procedures for the early detection of dengue, patient management, disease surveillance and the elimination of mosquito breeding sites across universities. They also seek to increase the participation of university students and staff in the national dengue prevention campaign.

Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Madhura Seneviratne said universities located in urban areas, particularly those with student hostels nearby, faced a higher risk of clustered dengue outbreaks. The new guidelines are intended to help universities reduce those risks through coordinated surveillance and prevention measures.
