HANOI, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The Vietnamese government has approved an emergency relief package worth 50 billion Vietnamese dong (about 1.9 million U.S. dollars) for the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau to support recovery efforts following recent natural disasters, local media outlet Dan Tri reported Tuesday.

The funding, to be drawn from the central budget contingency fund, will help the province recover from floods and landslides that left six people dead, 10 injured and two missing, the report said.

According to local authorities, the funding will be used to assist households whose homes were damaged, provide resettlement support, help affected residents restore their livelihoods, and carry out urgent repairs to transport infrastructure, irrigation systems, water supply facilities, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential infrastructure.

The disasters caused an estimated 330 billion Vietnamese dong (about 13 million dollars) in economic losses in the province, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
