COLOMBO, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed in a fire at a factory in the Katuwana Industrial Estate in the western Sri Lankan city of Homagama, local police said Tuesday.
The fire broke out Tuesday morning while more than 80 employees were reportedly inside the factory, which manufactures safety helmets.
Firefighters deployed about 10 fire trucks and brought the blaze under control, police said.
Rescue teams are continuing to search the building for people who may have been trapped inside.
Local police have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. ■
