MEXICO CITY, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Hernan Crespo has been appointed head coach of Atlas for Mexico's new Liga MX Apertura season, the club said on Thursday.
The 51-year-old replaces fellow Argentine Diego Cocca, who parted ways with the Guadalajara-based team earlier this month.
"His leadership, experience, and understanding of football make him the ideal profile to head this project," Atlas said in a statement on its official website.
Crespo had been out of work since parting ways with Brazilian side Sao Paulo in March. The former Argentina international striker has also had spells in charge of Modena, Banfield, Defensa y Justicia, Al-Duhail and Al Ain since ending his playing career in 2012.
His Atlas tenure will begin with a home clash against Monterrey on August 1. ■
