KATHMANDU, July 17 (Xinhua) -- As many as 163 people have lost their lives and one person remains missing in 3,347 disaster-related incidents across Nepal over the past three months, a government agency said on Friday.

The incidents, which occurred between mid-April and mid-July, also left 972 people injured, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.

Snakebites claimed the highest number of lives, killing 39 people in 525 incidents during the period. Lightning strikes were the second-deadliest, claiming 25 lives, followed by altitude sickness, which killed 21 people.

A total of 4,473 families were affected by various disasters during the three-month period.

Nepal, which is prone to different types of natural disasters, records thousands of disaster-related deaths every year. The toll typically rises during the monsoon season with the increasing cases of floods, landslides and lightning strikes.
