China's top political advisor visits DPRK for closer cooperation

WONSAN, DPRK, July 17 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Wang Huning expressed China's willingness to work with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to promote the sound development of bilateral ties during an official goodwill visit to the country from Wednesday to Friday at the invitation of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and the DPRK government.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a party and government delegation to the DPRK for the visit, during which he met with Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the WPK and president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, and held talks with Jo Yong Won, director of the Organizational Leadership Department of the WPK Central Committee, in Pyongyang.

In his meeting with Kim, Wang conveyed General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese President Xi Jinping's cordial greetings and best wishes. Noting that this year marks the 65th anniversary of the signing of the China-DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance, he said that Xi's recent state visit to the DPRK was a complete success.

During the visit, Xi and Kim held a long and in-depth exchange of views and reached a series of important consensus, charting a bright blueprint for the development of China-DPRK relations in the new era and injecting strong impetus into the socialist causes of the two countries, he added.

Wang said that China is willing to work with the DPRK to firmly implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties and countries, give full play to the strategic guiding role of exchanges between the top leaders, and ensure that the relations between the two parties and countries always develop in a direction that conforms to the goals of consolidating their respective socialist causes and promoting their respective modernization efforts.

China is also ready to enhance exchanges and communication between the two parties through various forms, further improve the effectiveness of practical cooperation between the two countries, continuously consolidate the foundation of public support for the China-DPRK friendship, and inject new contemporary connotations into the traditional China-DPRK friendship, he added.

For his part, Kim first conveyed cordial greetings and best wishes to General Secretary Xi, and expressed warm congratulations on the 105th anniversary of the founding of the CPC. Noting that holding grand commemorations of the 65th anniversary of the signing of the DPRK-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance is the consensus he reached with Xi, Kim said that the signing of the treaty defined the strategic nature of DPRK-China relations and safeguarded the strategic direction of bilateral relations.

Kim said that Xi's recent historic visit to the DPRK became a milestone in building DPRK-China relations into a model of relations between socialist countries. The DPRK side will adhere to making the development of DPRK-China relations its most important strategic undertaking, continue to carry forward and inherit the spirit of the treaty, strengthen high-level exchanges with the Chinese side, deepen experience exchanges in party building and other areas, enhance political and strategic mutual trust, expand cooperation in economy, science and technology, health, culture and other fields, and better benefit the peoples of the two countries, he added.

During his meeting with Jo, also a member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK and secretary of the WPK Central Committee, Wang said that the exchange of high-level delegations between China and the DPRK and the holding of grand commemorative events marking the 65th anniversary of the signing of the China-DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance demonstrate the great importance and firm commitment that the top leaders of the two parties and countries attach to developing China-DPRK relations.

They also highlight the distinctive features, strategic value and contemporary significance of the traditional friendship between the two countries, Wang added.

Wang voiced China's readiness to work with the DPRK to carry forward their traditional friendship and elevate China-DPRK relations to a higher level. He also introduced the essence and connotation of Xi Jinping Thought on Party Building.

Jo, for his part, said that the profound friendship and strategic guidance of General Secretary Kim and General Secretary Xi serve as the fundamental cornerstone and inexhaustible driving force for DPRK-China relations.

The DPRK will, in accordance with the will of the leaders of the two countries, strengthen exchanges with China of experience in party and state governance, and push for the lasting development of the socialist cause in both countries, Jo said.

During the visit, Wang also paid homage to the China-DPRK Friendship Tower, paid tribute to the cemetery of the martyrs of the Chinese People's Volunteers located in Sunan, Pyongyang, paid respects at the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun and toured the Central Cadres Training School of the WPK.

Wang also visited Wonsan city, accompanied by Jo and others.
