NEW YORK, July 17 (Xinhua) -- More than 100 representatives from the Chinese and U.S. business communities, as well as political and media figures in the United States, gathered here Thursday to discuss how to build more resilient and constructive ties between the world's two largest economies.

The event, themed "The Path Forward 2026" and hosted by the China General Chamber of Commerce (CGCC)-USA, focused on ways to bolster business confidence and long-term stability while exploring new opportunities.

Zhang Jianyu, chairperson of CGCC-USA and CEO of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China U.S. Region, said businesses from both countries have delivered tangible benefits to consumers and communities on both sides of the Pacific for decades.

"This foundation of mutual benefit remains strong, and it deserves our continued confidence," she said.

In his speech, Chinese Consul General in New York Chen Li said continued high-level engagement will provide strategic guidance for bilateral relations and create strong momentum for practical cooperation.

"Let economic and trade cooperation continue to serve as an anchor and engine for China-U.S. relations," he said.

Susan Elliott, president and CEO of National Committee on American Foreign Policy, said communication remains indispensable.

"The path forward requires patience, pragmatism and a willingness to keep talking," Elliott said. "Dialogue alone cannot solve every challenge. But without dialogue, our ability to manage these challenges becomes far more difficult."

Steven Fulop, president and CEO of the Partnership for New York City, which represents about 300 companies, said, "All of those CEOs would tell you that the relationship with China is very, very important, and we want to only continue to see that grow."

"At both the local and business levels, the U.S.-China relationship brings benefits," Fulop said.
