KABUL, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan has reached an agreement to launch a regional road transport corridor to enhance transit cooperation and boost regional connectivity, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation said on Thursday.
The agreement was reached during a trilateral meeting of transport officials from Afghanistan, Iran and Tajikistan, according to a ministry statement.
Under the agreement, commercial cargo between Iran and Tajikistan will be transported through Afghan territory, facilitating regional trade and transit.
The ministry said the initiative is expected to strengthen transport cooperation among the participating countries, improve cross-border connectivity and reinforce Afghanistan's role as a regional transit hub linking Central and South Asia. ■
