BEIJING, July 16 (Xinhua) -- China will adjust export controls on helium in a timely manner based on changes in its supply and demand both at home and abroad, a Ministry of Commerce spokesperson said Thursday.
Spokesperson He Yadong noted at a press conference that China is a major importer of helium, and to ensure domestic supply, the country decided to impose a temporary ban on helium exports.
The ban, which took effect last Friday, was made in accordance with China's foreign trade law and World Trade Organization rules, He said. ■
