NEW DELHI, July 15 (Xinhua) -- A worker was killed and five others suffered injuries Tuesday in a copper melting furnace explosion at a scrap recycling plant in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, officials said.
The explosion took place at Jain Resource Recycling facility in the SIPCOT Industrial Estate, Gummidipoondi, in Tiruvallur district, about 45 km northwest of Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu.
Following the blast, company staff, along with personnel from the fire and rescue services and the police, rushed to the spot to carry out rescue work.
Police have registered a case and ordered an investigation into the incident. The operations at the facility have been suspended. ■
