JAKARTA, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has blocked 3.7 million websites and pieces of online content linked to illegal gambling since October 2024, Communications and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said Tuesday, as authorities step up a nationwide crackdown.
The government has also received reports of 156,000 bank accounts suspected of facilitating online gambling and 85,500 mobile phone numbers allegedly used in fraud through official reporting platforms, Meutya said.
Of the 38,000 bank accounts reported by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs to the Financial Services Authority, 32,500, have been closed, she added.
The minister said the government was shifting from reactive content takedowns to pattern-based anomaly detection, while strengthening data integration among agencies to accelerate action against illegal gambling networks.
President Prabowo Subianto has made the fight against online gambling a national priority, describing it as a serious threat that harms the public, fuels social problems and causes substantial economic losses. ■
