LONDON, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Oil prices surged on Tuesday after the United States launched a fresh wave of strikes on Iran and vowed to reimpose a naval blockade.
International benchmark Brent crude rose 5.1 percent to 87.51 U.S. dollars a barrel, while West Texas Intermediate, the U.S. benchmark, gained 3.9 percent to 81.21 dollars a barrel, according to market data.
The sharp rise came amid renewed concerns over potential disruptions to energy supplies in the Middle East following the latest escalation between Washington and Tehran. ■
