BEIJING, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.36 percent to 3,967.13 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.77 percent higher at 14,924.87 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at 2.72 trillion yuan (about 400 billion U.S. dollars), down from 2.82 trillion yuan in the previous trading day.
Stocks related to computing power hardware, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals and non-ferrous metals led the gains, while those related to military, commercial space and gaming were among the top decliners.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 3.43 percent to close at 3,851.14 points.
The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 0.8 percent higher at 2,264.31 points. ■
