LONDON, July 14 (Xinhua) -- The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Tuesday that two oil tankers were attacked while transiting the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz.

In two separate warning notices, the UKMTO said the incidents involved two tankers that were struck by missiles while sailing outbound through the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz. The notices were largely identical except for the vessels' reference numbers.

Both incidents occurred about 13 nautical miles southeast of Limah, Oman, according to the UKMTO.

Following a recent U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding, two shipping routes have been established in the Strait of Hormuz: a northern route controlled by Iran and a southern route near Omani waters, where the U.S. military provides navigational assistance.

ADNOC Logistics & Services, the shipping arm of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, said on Tuesday that one seafarer was killed and several others were injured after two crude oil tankers operated by the company were struck by projectiles while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Analysts said the two incidents reported by the UKMTO appeared to be the same attacks involving the two UAE-operated tankers.
