RIO DE JANEIRO, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Gremio manager Luis Castro confirmed on Sunday that Cabo Verde international Jovane Cabral had joined the Brazilian Serie A club on a free transfer.
The 28-year-old agreed to an 18-month deal after his contract with Portugal's Estrela da Amadora expired at the end of last season. He will be eligible to play from July 20, when Brazil's mid-season transfer window opens.
"He's a player who was at the World Cup, played matches and can operate on the left or through the middle," Castro told reporters. "He joins a group committed to the work and the objectives for the season. I think he has the quality to become part of our squad."
Cabral has also had spells at Sporting CP, Lazio and Olympiacos, among other clubs.
He played two matches for Cabo Verde at this year's World Cup, featuring for 61 minutes in the opening draw with Spain and 80 minutes in the round of 32 defeat to Argentina. ■
