KAMPALA, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Uganda Premier League side Kitara FC has signed Ghanaian defender Bonney Christopher on a two-year contract, the club announced on Monday.

"Kitara Football Club have completed the signing of Ghanaian born defender Bonney Christopher on a two-year contract," the club said in a statement.

Christopher becomes Kitara's first signing of the current transfer window as the Uganda Cup holder strengthens its squad for the 2026-27 season, when it will also represent Uganda in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

The defender has previously played for four clubs in the Ghana Premier League, as well as in Tajikistan's Vysshaya Liga.

"There is a lot expected of me, from my teammates and the fans, but I want to pledge my commitment and determination to help us win games and titles this season," Bonney Christopher told Xinhua after the signing.

Kitara head coach Wasswa Bbosa said he was pleased to bring in an experienced defender from Ghana.

"We have been monitoring him for a while and we are delighted to add him to the squad. He has a positive mentality, good experience, and he brings real competition for places. He will be an important player for us next season," Bbosa added.

Kitara FC won the Uganda Cup last season and finished fourth in the Uganda Premier League.
