KABUL, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have completed and commissioned 14 new water supply networks in the underdeveloped Sari Pul province in northern Afghanistan, to alleviate acute water scarcity, the country's Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock reported on Monday.

The projects, implemented at a total cost of 56 million Afghanis (more than 860,000 U.S. dollars), were inaugurated in the districts of Sancharak, Sozma Qala, and Gosfandi, the ministry said in a statement.

Officials say the networks will deliver clean, potable water to around 3,500 families, offering much-needed relief in a region long plagued by water scarcity.

Afghanistan has endured successive years of severe drought and exacerbating water shortages across the country. While major urban centers, including the capital Kabul, often struggle with limited access to safe drinking water, rural communities face even greater challenges.

The development comes as part of broader efforts to strengthen resilience against climate-induced challenges and improve living standards in remote provinces.
