PHNOM PENH, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has secured a 119-million-U.S.-dollar loan from Japan to fund the second phase of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port's new container terminal development project.

The loan agreement was signed on Monday by Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia Ueno Atsushi, according to a press release from the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The project aims to improve the container cargo handling capacity of the Sihanoukville port, the only international deep-sea port in Cambodia, as well as the logistic efficacy of Cambodia by developing a new container terminal and its related infrastructure, the press release said.

It added that the continued financial assistance demonstrates Japan's firm commitment to promoting trade and socio-economic development in Cambodia, as well as further strengthening the Cambodia-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
