Trump threatens massive missile strike on Iran if Tehran acts to assassinate him

U.S. President Donald Trump threatened on Friday to launch 1,000 missiles against Iran, "with thousands of more to immediately follow," if Tehran acts on its threat to assassinate him.

"Orders have already been given, and the U.S. Military is ready, willing, and able, for a one year period of time, subject to extension, to completely decimate and destroy all areas of Iran," he wrote in a post on Truth Social.

Earlier Friday, Trump said that Washington has agreed to continue negotiations with Iran, although it has informed Tehran that the ceasefire is over.

Iran says talks impossible till U.S. retreats from its positions, vows to revenge for late supreme leader's death

Iran will not enter negotiations with the United States until Washington backs down from its positions, semi-official Fars news agency reported Saturday, rejecting earlier media reports that Iran had sought such negotiations.

Citing a source close to the Iranian negotiating team, Fars said the start of negotiations would depend on U.S. implementation of the recently signed peace memorandum of understanding (MoU), including ending the war and securing an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, as well as resolving issues related to maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz, among other issues.

Also on Saturday, Iranian media released a written message by Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, in which he said the deaths of late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and others killed in the Israel-Iran war in June last year and the U.S.-Israel-Iran war in February this year must be avenged.

Venezuela quake death toll rises to 4,333

The death toll from the June 24 earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to 4,333, National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said Saturday.

Rodriguez said 16,740 people were injured and 6,462 had been rescued. Authorities have set up 94 temporary camps sheltering more than 18,000 people.

He said about 30,000 volunteers had signed up to help victims during the critical phase of the disaster, and that the government has proposed involving them in home construction and repair.

As many families remain homeless, Rodriguez said the government had launched a Unified Housing Registry, which will serve both as a census and as a database for state-ordered financial assistance to quake victims.
