MUSCAT, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Oman's Maritime Security Center (OMSC) said on Sunday that rescue teams had saved 23 crew members from a commercial vessel that came under attack off the coast of Musandam Governorate.

In a statement, the OMSC said emergency teams responded to a distress call from the Cyprus-flagged commercial vessel GFS Galaxy, which was attacked about 4.4 nautical miles off Musandam.

The rescued crew members were provided with necessary medical care, while search operations continued for one crew member who remains missing, the statement said.

The rescue operation was carried out after the U.S. Central Command said the GFS Galaxy, a container ship, was attacked by Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The command said the vessel was unable to continue its voyage after an onboard fire and extensive damage to its engine room.

Earlier on Sunday, India condemned the attack on the commercial vessel, which was carrying Indian nationals. Indian authorities confirmed 10 Indian nationals had been rescued, while one remained missing.
