MADRID, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Madrid on Saturday confirmed the signing of Danish international midfielder Morten Hjulmand from Sporting Club de Portugal for a reported 40 million euros (45.5 million U.S. dollars).
The 27-year-old has signed a contract with Atletico until the end of June 2031 to add extra bite to the midfield of the team coached by Diego Simeone.
Hjulmand leaves Sporting after three seasons with the Portuguese club in which he won two league titles and the Taca de Portugal (Portuguese Cup).
He is Atletico's second signing of the summer following left-back, Alex Grimaldo.
While Hjulmand arrives to strengthen the midfield, Argentinean international forward, Thiago Almada is on the verge of leaving the club to return to his homeland with River Plate.
Almada joined Atletio in the summer of 2025 and scored four goals in 40 appearances, many of which were as a substitute. ■
