PHNOM PENH, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's garment, textile, footwear, and travel goods industry saw a 6.2 percent increase in exports during the first half of 2026, according to a report from the General Department of Customs and Excise on Saturday.

The Southeast Asian country exported 7.99 billion U.S. dollars worth of goods from January to June this year, up from 7.52 billion dollars over the same period last year, the report said.

The garment, textile, footwear, and travel goods sector is Cambodia's top foreign exchange earner, representing 46.8 percent of total exports, the report said.

Thong Mengdavid, deputy director at the China-ASEAN Studies Center of the Cambodia University of Technology and Science, said the growth proves Cambodia is effectively diversifying its markets.

"Cambodia's entry into the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and its bilateral free trade agreements with China, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates have boosted market access and supply chain integration," he told Xinhua.

The sector includes over 1,800 factories and branches employing roughly 1.1 million workers, mostly women, according to the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training.
