KAMPALA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC has entered a tough Group A for the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup, following the draw conducted by the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) in Kigali, Rwanda, on Friday.
Vipers will face hosts APR FC of Rwanda, Kenya's Gor Mahia FC and Djibouti's Garde Republicaine FC in the regional tournament, which will be held in Kigali from July 24 to August 7.
The Ugandan champion, who is yet to win the CECAFA Kagame Cup, will take on formidable opponents in APR FC and Gor Mahia, both three-time winners of the competition.
Vipers will also be looking to make a strong statement ahead of the new season after strengthening their squad during the transfer window and appointing experienced French coach Denis Lavagne.
Abdul Wasike, the club's head of media, told Xinhua that the team was now focused on preparing for the tournament. "Our team will prepare accordingly and the tournament will give us a good platform before the CAF Champions League," said Wasike.
Defending champions Singida Black Stars FC of Tanzania was drawn into Group B alongside compatriots Simba SC, six-time champions of the tournament, Jamus SC of South Sudan and Mogadishu City Club of Somalia.
Group C features Sudan's Al Hilal SC, Rwanda's Rayon Sports FC, Kenya's Tusker FC and KVZ SC of Zanzibar. ■
