JAKARTA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni said Friday that President Prabowo Subianto had issued an instruction to protect the populations and habitats of Sumatran and Bornean elephants.
Antoni said the instruction mandates cross-sector coordination to ensure elephant conservation efforts are carried out alongside infrastructure development and economic activities.
The instruction also requires the establishment of wildlife corridors and conservation areas in locations intersecting elephant migration routes to maintain habitat connectivity, he added.
The policy involves nine ministries, the national police, and regional governments in Sumatra and North Kalimantan in coordinated efforts to protect elephants. ■
