BEIJING, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Cai Qi has called for deepening and expanding efforts to curb pointless formalities for easing the burden on primary-level officials.

Cai, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and a member of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat, made the remarks on Friday at a meeting aimed at reducing the burden of primary-level officials caused by pointless formalities.

He stressed integrating such efforts with the Party-wide campaign to uphold and act on the correct view of performance, and urged further translating the results of burden reduction on the primary level into more effective governance.

Attendees at the meeting agreed that more efforts should be made to tackle problems such as the short-sighted pursuit of quick payoffs, ill-judged decisions, and new officials disavowing obligations undertaken by their predecessors.

Easing burdens on primary-level officials by rectifying pointless formalities is a long-term task, and education on the correct view of performance should be strengthened for leading officials at all levels following leadership reshuffles, according to the meeting.

It was also stressed that central Party and state organs should take the lead in ensuring the effective implementation of burden-reduction measures, while local Party committees should fulfill their primary responsibilities and strictly address the problems of strong concern at the primary level.
