MANILA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine Department of Education on Friday postponed the national safe schools summit and safety drill in Manila over concerns about the effects of Typhoon Bavi, according to official media reports.

According to the Philippine News Agency, the safety drills were originally scheduled to be held at Manila Science High School as part of the agency's efforts to intensify security protocols against on-campus threats.

The Department of Education said on Friday that the decision was made in view of the suspension of face-to-face classes in Manila due to inclement weather.

Located in the western Pacific, the Philippines faces multiple typhoons annually. Recently, Typhoon Bavi has caused a sharp increase in rainfall, elevating the risk of floods and landslides nationwide.
