VIENTIANE, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Laos' Ministry of Education and Sports will introduce a range of measures to improve the quality of education in rural and remote areas, aiming to ensure students have access to the same standard of education as those in urban centers.
Speaking during the first extraordinary session of the Lao National Assembly's 10th legislature, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Sports Thongsalith Mangnomek outlined the ministry's priorities to improve the quality of education in rural and remote areas, with the goal of ensuring equal access to the same standard of education as in urban areas, Lao Economic Daily reported on Friday.
To strengthen the education system, the ministry will continue reforming early childhood education by improving the pre-primary curriculum, providing children with a stronger foundation before entering secondary school. Non-formal education centers will also be enhanced to help students who have left the formal education system continue their studies.
The ministry also plans to increase scholarships for students from low-income families, disadvantaged children and children with disabilities. Additional student dormitories and essential facilities will be built in remote areas to reduce travel difficulties and improve school attendance. ■
