BEIJING, July 10 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Emergency Management (MEM) on Friday activated a Level-IV emergency response for geological disasters in the country's capital, Beijing, and neighboring Hebei Province.

Influenced by the southwest monsoon and Typhoon Bavi, torrential rains are expected to hit some parts of north China from Friday to Monday. Some areas in Beijing and Hebei are expected to receive 300-350 mm of rain, the MEM said, citing meteorological forecasts.

Following joint consultations and assessments with the Ministry of Natural Resources, the MEM has identified a high risk of geological disasters in northeastern and southwestern Beijing, as well as in central and northeastern Hebei.

The ministry has asked relevant authorities in affected regions to deploy rescue forces, supplies and equipment, and intensify inspections and early warning.

China's national observatory on Friday renewed an orange alert for Typhoon Bavi, the ninth typhoon of 2026, which is expected to bring gales and heavy rain to eastern China. At 8 a.m., the center of Bavi was located approximately 1,020 km southeast of the boundary between Fujian and Zhejiang provinces in eastern China.

China has a four-tier emergency response system, with Level I being the most severe.
