BEIJING, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The 2026 APEC Ministerial Meeting on Forestry will be held in Shenzhen, south China's Guangdong Province, on July 27 and 28, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration said on Thursday.
With the theme of "Building a Green Asia-Pacific, Sharing Ecological Well-being," the meeting is one of the key events of the 2026 APEC.
High-level representatives from APEC member economies, the APEC Secretariat and international organizations will engage in policy dialogues on forest conservation and sustainable management, balancing ecological protection with livelihood development, and technological innovation.
The Asia-Pacific region accounts for more than half of the world's forest area, around 60 percent of global forest product output, and 40 percent of global forest product trade, said Li Yunqing, deputy head of the administration. The region is also home to nearly half of the world's mangrove resources.
Despite differences in resource endowments and development stages, economies across the region face common challenges, including climate change, forest degradation and biodiversity loss, Li said, calling for stronger governance, technological innovation and regional cooperation to advance sustainable forestry development.
Li said China has pursued high-standard conservation and high-quality development of its forestry and grassland sector. The country has also actively contributed to the regional forestry cooperation by funding demonstration projects and promoting new technologies in developing economies, helping drive improvements in forest management across APEC economies, he noted. ■
