AMMAN/TEHRAN, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's air defense systems shot down eight missiles launched from Iran toward Jordanian territory on Thursday, a military source said, while Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said it attacked the U.S. command center in the Middle East and the al-Azraq air base in Jordan using 10 ballistic missiles.

The anonymous source at the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army said the interception operations caused missile debris to fall, but no casualties or property damage were reported.

The source added that the armed forces are closely monitoring regional developments and remain at the highest level of readiness to protect the kingdom's airspace, defend its sovereignty, and safeguard the safety of its territory.

The military will not allow any party to violate Jordan's airspace, the source added.

For its part, the IRGC said in a statement cited by Iranian media that "the enemy's command and control center in the Middle East and the al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan were struck by 10 ballistic missiles."

If the U.S. military "repeats its aggression, other American bases in the region will not be safe from our heavy fire," added the statement.
