MADRID, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Deportivo A Coruna continued its preparations for its first season back in La Liga in eight years by signing Italian midfielder Lorenzo Amatucci from Fiorentina on Thursday.
The 22-year-old, who has represented Italy at youth level, has signed a five-year contract. Spanish media reported the transfer fee at around 2.5 million euros (2.9 million U.S. dollars).
Amatucci spent last season on loan in Spain at second-tier Las Palmas, helping the team reach the promotion playoffs before losing to Malaga in the semifinals.
He made 40 appearances for Las Palmas, including 38 starts, and impressed with his positional awareness and ability to dictate possession through simple, effective passing.
Deportivo has also signed goalkeeper Leo Roman from relegated Mallorca and Dutch defender Teun Gijselhart from De Graafschap as it looks to strengthen its squad for the new season. ■
